Chiang Mai: Myanmar in Transition Connectivity, Changes and Challenges

“Burma/Myanmar in Transition: Connectivity, Changes and Challenges” International Conference on Burma/Myanmar Studies, is scheduled to be he in Thailand’s northern province of Chiang Mai during 24-26 July 2015, organised by Chiang Mai University’s Regional Center for Social Science and Sustainable Development (RCSD) in collaboration with University of Mandalay, and the Netherlands International Institute of Asian Studies (IIAS).

The first international conference of its kind in Thailand, the event aims to bring together leading scholars and intellectuals on Burma/Myanmar in order to develop a deeper understanding of the political, social, environmental, and economical transformations occurring in Burma/Myanmar, to assist in placing scholarship on Burma/Myanmar at the forefront of conversation and strengthen in within academia, to enable young and mid-level scholars and researchers to participate in an international academic forum and have interaction with leading scholars within the field. 

The conference focus includes the peace process, ethnic politics, education reform, border and migration, refugees and development policies of Burma / Myanmar, through three plenary sessions, 45 thematic panel sessions and 5 roundtables, and side events such as film screening and exhibitions, with expected 250 graduate students, researchers and scholars participation from both Thailand and Myanmar.
