Kathmandu. - More than half a million children are being targeted in an emergency vaccination drive in Nepal - as fears grow of measles outbreaks in the informal camps that have sprung up since the earthquake on 25 April. The campaign was launched by the Nepalese Ministry of Health and Population, with support from UNICEF and the World Health Organisation (WHO). In a major step to boost the health-care assistance to earthquake survivors who have been unreachable since last week’s disaster, the World Health Organization announced the establishment of a new field office in the Gorkha district of Nepal.
Bonn. - 30.000 Menschen kann das Technische Hilfswerk (THW) pro Tag seit Montag im nepalesischen Kathmandu mit sauberem Trinkwasser versorgen. Nachdem am Wochenende das erste von Trinkwasseranlage (TWA) Nummer eins aufbereitete Wasser an die Bevölkerung abgegeben wurde - insgesamt 24.000 Liter -, produziert nun auch die zweite TWA des THW 5.000 Liter frisches Wasser in der Stunde.
Havanna. - Japans Außenminister Fumio Kishida ist im Rahmen eines Arbeitsbesuchs in Kuba auch mit dem ehemaligen Staats- und Regierungschef Fidel Castro zusammengekommen. Zuvor hatte er sich mit dem amtierenden Präsidenten Raúl Castro getroffen. Der erste Besuch eines japanischen Außenministers in Kuba endete am Sonntag.

Santiago de Chile. - Bolivia, Cuba and Ecuador are within the top ten places in the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s (IPU) world ranking of women’s presence in national parliaments, in second, fourth and ninth places respectively. The whole region reached the 27.5% of female participation in parliaments.
Kabul. - The Director of Operations at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Dominik Stillhart, has expressed concern at the growing number of civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. He said this was especially troubling at a time when funding commitments to support humanitarian work in the country were decreasing.
