Sana’a. - The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Yemen, worried by the recent escalation of violence in the country, expressed concern on Thursday at reports of civilian casualties following air strikes in the capital Sana’a and other parts of the country. Ordinary Yemenis – already hit hard by years of conflict – are now enduring the effects of this escalation. "All parties involved in the current round of violence are bound by the rules governing the conduct of hostilities," said Cedric Schweizer, who heads the ICRC delegation in Yemen.

London. - Palestinian armed groups displayed a flagrant disregard for the lives of civilians by repeatedly launching indiscriminate rockets and mortars towards civilian areas in Israel during the conflict in July and August 2014, said Amnesty International in a new report published on Thursday. The report "Unlawful and deadly: Rocket and mortar attacks by Palestinian armed groups during the 2014 Gaza/Israel conflict" provides evidence that several attacks launched from inside the Gaza Strip amount to war crimes.
Genf. - Insgesamt wurden im Jahr 2014 geschätzte 866.000 Erstasylanträge in den Industrieländern gestellt. Dies bedeutet eine Steigerung von 45 Prozent gegenüber 2013, als 596.000 Anträge gezählt wurden. Die Zahl für 2014 ist damit die höchste seit 1992, als der Konflikt in Bosnien und Herzegowina ausbrach.
